An unforgiving heaviness.

It came to me untitled; I call it 'Vigil'. 

Carved wood caryatid prestige stool in the Congo Basin idiom (Luba/Hemba stylistic tradition), featuring a crescent-eyed mask face and dentate motif carved into the base.

The crescent-eyed face keeps vigil over whoever sits, whoever passes, whoever simply stands before it.

A kneeling figure supports the seat, which shows visible age cracks, which is evidence of genuine use rather than damage from mishandling. There are also signs of repair and a crack on the base. 

Dimensions: 39cm tall x 20cm diameter.
