This contemporary wall mask is hand-built in a heavily textured, red/pink-toned composite, the surface encrusted and pitted like something excavated rather than made.
A single ridge runs from the crown of the head straight down through the brow and nose, splitting the face in two. The mouth is left open in a fixed, wordless call, the only real void in an otherwise unbroken surface.
It's a one-of-a-kind studio piece, made in the primitivist tradition rather than tied to any tribal or ceremonial origin — no ethnographic attribution is claimed.
What it lacks in provenance, it makes up for in presence: a face that unsettles not through what it shows you, but the way it looks straight through you.
