I've undertaken extensive research and also been told by different collectors that this is a genuine gutta percha ball. I don't claim to be an expert, so please study all the images carefully before ordering and email if you have any questions.
This is a nice line-cut, unmarked gutta percha golf ball from the 1880s/1890s.
The gutta percha would have been pressed in a mould, which created the visible seam.
The next stage of the manufacturing process was to cut lines into the ball to aid its flight through the air.
It was common for balls of this era to be manufactured without a maker's name. It measures 4.2cm in diameter and has a "dead" bounce when dropped on a wooden table.
There's a tiny bit of give when pressed hard, but it feels much more solid than an antique rubber practice ball I had previously.
Please note that the small plastic stand is not included.
